1. 개요

소닉 더 헤지혹(2006)의 OST. 소닉의 테마곡인 동시에 게임 전체의 주제가. 작곡은 세가 소속 작곡가이자 본작의 사운드 디렉터 오오타니 토모야가, 보컬은 외국 펑크록 그룹인 Zebrahead의 멤버 알리 타바타베(Ali Tabatabaee)와 매티 루이스(Matty Lewis)가 맡은 곡이다. 수록작이 하필 소닉 시리즈 최악의 게임 중 하나라서 붙은 별명이 저주받은 명곡.

소닉 시리즈를 통틀어서 가장 좋은 평가를 받는 곡 중 하나지만, 원작 게임의 분위기가 분위기인지라 기존의 OST들과 비교했을 때 분위기가 다소 다르다. 시리즈 내에서 인지도가 높은 곡들은 전반적인 분위기가 평화롭거나 경쾌한 데 반해, 이 곡은 다소 무겁고 암울한 면이 있다. 노래가 시작할때도 다른 소닉 시리즈 노래와는 다르게 바이올린과 기타로 씁쓸한 기분을 들게한다.

3.1. 게임 테마곡

  • Sonic Appears
    2006 E3 버전의 어레인지. 소닉 에피소드의 인트로에서 소닉이 나타나 엘리스를 데리고 에그맨을 따돌릴 때 재생된 BGM이다.
  • Results
    스테이지 클리어 시 빵빠레 직후 흘러나오는 잔잔한 버전.
  • The Time-Space Rift (53초부터)
    솔라리스가 부활한 이후 왜곡된 시공간에 레귤러 캐릭터들이 전부 모였을 때 삽입된 BGM. 메필레스에게 등짝을 찔려 의식을 잃은 소닉을 발견하자 에이미는 오열하고, 이 부분에서 His World의 멜로디가 들려온다.
  • Wishing Upon The Chaos Emeralds
    최종보스전 직전에, 문제의 키스 장면과 함께 소닉이 의식을 되찾을 때 나오는 BGM. 첨부된 링크로 들어가 1분 10초 부분부터 들어보면 His World의 후렴 부분의 가락이 나온다. 소닉이 키스를 받고 딱 슈퍼 소닉 상태로 깨어나는 순간에 이 파트가 재생된다. 그리고 1분 43초 이후의 구간은 섀도우와 실버가 이어서 변신하는 장면에 쓰인 파트이다.

3.2. 게임과 별개로 공개된 노래

  • Zebrahead의 자체 편곡 버전
    현악기 연주 파트가 사라졌고 속도가 상당히 빨라졌으며 후렴구를 약간 바꾸었다. (개인차가 있을 수 있겠지만) 많은 사람들이 가장 좋은 버전으로 꼽고, 가장 많이 알려진 버전이다.
  • Crush 40가 편곡한 버전
    소닉 시리즈의 보컬곡을 여러 번 맡아온 Crush 40가 부른 버전. 전체적으로 곡이 느려졌으며, 랩 파트가 사라졌다. Crush 40 특유의 뜨거우면서도 시원시원한 샤우팅이 특징이다.

뭐 이리 많아 인기가 인기인 만큼 수많은 공식·비공식 리믹스 버전이 나왔으며, 음악 좀 하는 소닉 팬들이 가장 많이 손을 대는 곡이기도 하다. 당장 유튜브나 사운드클라우드에 'his world cover' 혹은 'his world remix'라고 치면 수두룩하게 나온다.

4. 여담

캐나다 출신 래퍼 Drake의 노래 'KMT'는 이 노래의 도입부를 샘플링하여 만든 곡이다. 들어보면 도입부를 쪼개서 썼다.
기동전사 건담 UC의 RX-0라는 곡과 느낌이 비슷하다.

[1] 소닉 어드벤처부터 소닉 히어로즈까지는 이 전통이 적용되지 않았다. 그러나 섀도우 더 헤지혹(게임)에서는 다시 무적 아이템 BGM이 주제가의 어레인지가 되었으며, 결국 이 전통은 클래식 시리즈의 정식 후속작 소닉 더 헤지혹 4에서도 이어진다.
