1. 개요

존 레논의 1973년 정규 4집 Mind Games의 4번 트랙이며, 몽환적인 분위기의 발라드 곡이다. 존 레논은 이 곡에서 가성으로 노래를 불렀다. 가성으로 노래를 부른 건 오노 요코의 아이디어였다고 존 레논이 1980년 인터뷰에서 설명했다.[1]

가성으로 부르지 않은 데모도 존재하는데, 해당 데모는 1998년 발매된 박스 세트 《John Lennon Anthology》에 수록되었다.[2]

엘튼 존이 1974년에 비틀즈 곡 Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds를 커버했을 때 이 곡도 커버했다. 1974년 11월 발매된 "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" 싱글 B면에 수록되었고, 1975년 정규 9집 Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy의 1995/96년 리마스터반에도 보너스 트랙으로 수록되었다.[3]

엘튼 존이 커버한 "One Day (At a Time)"에서 존 레논이 기타를 연주하고 하모니 보컬로 참여했다는 이야기가 있지만 사실이 아니다. 《Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy》의 1995/96년 리마스터반에 실린 라이너 노트에는 존 레논은 이 커버곡에 참여하지 않았다고 서술되었다.[4]

엘튼 존은 개인적으로 애착하는 곡이며, 비틀즈 곡이 아닌 다른 존 레논의 곡을 고르려고 했을 때 이 곡을 골랐다고 밝혔다.[5]
