1. 개요
Google에서 만든 비서 서비스.사용자의 사용 습관을 분석해서 미리 카드 형태로 알려주는 기능이 다른 비서 서비스와의 큰 차이점이며, 사용자로부터 음성 명령어를 받아 기능을 수행하기도 한다.
안드로이드용 Google 앱에 기본 탑재되어 있으며, iOS에서도 Google 앱을 설치하면 이용해 볼 수 있다. Google 어시스턴트가 출시된 국가에서는 기존의 Google Now 호출 방법으로는 Google 어시스턴트가 실행되기 때문에 Google 앱을 직접 실행해야 한다.
2. 역사
- 2012년
- 안드로이드 4.1 젤리빈에서 첫 등장.
- 영화, 폭풍이나 지진 경보 추가, 한국어 지원 시작.
- 2013년
- 자동차 렌탈이나 콘서트장 도착시 티켓을 미리 준비하는 기능, 퇴근시 가족이나 친구에게 알려주는 기능, 막차 알림, 미식축구 현재 스코어 알림, Shazam연동으로 음악이나 tv를 인식하는 기능, 새로운 앨범이나 , 책, TV 에피소드 알림.
- 스마트 워치에서 Google 나우 서비스 시작.
- iOS에서 Google 나우 서비스 시작.
- 2014년
- 주차 위치 자동 기억 기능 추가.
- 검색한 물건을 파는 상점이 근처에 있을 때, 알려주는 기능 추가.
- 대중교통 이용 시 내릴 장소에서 깨워주는 기능 추가.
- 2015년
- 안드로이드 6.0에서 나우 온 탭 서비스 시작. 12월 부터 한국어도 지원 언어에 포함되었다.
- 2016년
- Google 어시스턴트 기반 메신저 Allo 출시 이후 통합 될 조짐이 보임.
3. 기능
- 자동 길안내 : 사용자의 평소 이동 패턴을 분석해서 자동으로 길안내를 해주며, 특정 지역을 검색했다면 집에서 길을 나서는 순간 바로 길안내를 해주기도 하지만 한국에서는(...)
- 지메일 분석 : 지메일로 들어오는 정보를 재가공해서 보여준다. ( 택배추적/일정입력 등)

- 주변 교통 정보 ( 대중교통을 이용한다면, 대중교통 정보)

4. 음성 명령어
"OK Google" 음성를 이용해서 음성 명령어 대기상태를 활성화 시킬 수 있다. 잠금 상태에서도 사용할 수 있는데, 미리 자신의 목소리를 기기에 기록해야한다. "OK Google"을 세번 말하는것으로 설정이 끝나긴 한다. 더불어 잠금상태에서 이용하면 잠금도 풀린다.하지만, 그 많은 음성데이터를 폰에 넣는건 아무리봐도 무리인지라 음성 인식을 통한 기능의 사용은 인터넷이 연결되어있어야한다.

한국어 명령어는 영어 명령어보다 많이 부족하다.[1]- 전화: "홍길동한테 전화걸어", "홍길동 전화"

- 할일목록은 구글 나우, 구글 캘린더, 구글 inbox 와 연동된다.
- "~ 어떻게 가?"
- "음악 들려줘" 라고 하면, 구글 뮤직이 실행되고 자동으로 재생된다.
