1. 개요
1989년 개봉한 디즈니 애니메이션 인어공주의 사운드트랙이다. 앨런 멩컨이 작곡, 하워드 애쉬먼이 작사하였고 세바스찬 역의 새뮤얼 E. 라이트가 노래를 불렀다. 1990년 제62회 아카데미 시상식에서 주제가상 후보로 올라 공연을 펼쳤으며 주제가상을 수상했다. 디즈니 최고의 OST 중 하나라는 평을 받는다.인어공주 ost 중에서 최초로 공개된 ost이다. 첫 공개는 1988년으로, 인어공주 첫 공개 발표 영상에 처음 등장했다.
작중에서 세바스찬이 에리얼에게 인간이 되지 말고 바다에 남아달라고 애원하면서 이 노래를 부른다. 가사 내용에는 인간 세상은 불행하지만 바다 밑은 살기 좋은 곳이라는 의미가 담겨있다.[1] 세바스찬이 인간 세상에선 하루종일 일하고 힘들다 하는데 생각해보면 맞는 말이다. 그런데 에리얼은 세바스찬이 노래하는 도중에 플라운더와 같이 도망친다(...).[2] 가사에서 라임이 아주 찰지고 잘 짜여있다. 참고로 Under the sea를 언더 더 씨가 아니라 안다 다 씨에 가깝게 발음하는 게 포인트. 엔딩 크레딧에 수록되어 있기도 하다.
2008년 브로드웨이에서 초연된 뮤지컬 인어공주에 삽입되었으며 세바스찬 역의 티투스 버지스가 노래를 불렀다.
2023년 애니메이션 인어공주를 실사화한 영화 인어공주에 삽입되었으며 세바스찬 역의 다비드 디그스가 노래를 불렀다.
2000년 《유로비트 디즈니》에선 데릭 시먼스가 커버했다.
